I'd like to talk about a coastal kayaking trip I tried last summer in Seabrook Bay. A friend and I signed up for a one-day excursion organised by the local outdoor centre. We set off early in the morning when the sea was calm and the light was beautiful. I had some experience on rivers, but this was my first time in open water. Our guide gave us a short briefing about paddling technique and safety, then helped us launch. At first I was a bit nervous because the waves were larger than I expected, and steering a sea kayak is quite different from what I'm used to. However, once I found my rhythm I started to enjoy it. We paddled along rocky coves, spotted seals and a couple of seabirds, and stopped at a small bay for lunch. What I liked most was the fresh sea air and the quiet — being out on the water felt peaceful but also energising. The physical challenge was good too: my arms were tired by the end of the day, but it felt like real exercise. The trip also pushed me out of my comfort zone, which I think is important. On the downside, the sunscreen ran into my eyes during the afternoon sun, which was uncomfortable, but it wasn't a big problem. Overall it was an unforgettable day and I'd definitely try coastal kayaking again, maybe for a longer trip next time.
